Aarburg Castle is a prominent 13th-century fortress dramatically perched on a rocky ridge high above the Aare River in Aarburg, canton of Aargau, Switzerland, originally built around 1200 by the Lords of Büron and later acquired by the Counts of Frohburg.

Expanded extensively under Bernese control after 1415 into a massive Baroque complex with thick limestone walls up to 3.5 meters, a 13th-century keep carved from bedrock, and fortified wings added in the 16th-17th centuries, it guarded vital north-south trade routes against Catholic neighbors.

Transitioning from Habsburg seat to Bernese prison for political figures, then cantonal arsenal and jail, it has served since 1893 as Switzerland's oldest juvenile rehabilitation center, the Kantonale Jugendheim, classified as a heritage site of national significance despite restricted public access.
