Acapulco Botanical Garden
Acapulco, Mexico
The Acapulco Botanical Garden, also known as the Esther Salinas Pliego Botanical Garden, is a lush tropical garden located a few minutes outside Acapulco in the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains. It spans 6 hectares and is situated at an altitude of 200 to 400 meters above sea level.
The garden offers comfortable trails that pass through a subtropical deciduous forest featuring a wide variety of plants including palms, cycads, desert plants, flowering and fruit trees, bromeliads, orchids, ferns, and vines. Visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty of granite rocks, tranquil ponds, and two streams, one of which has water year-round. The garden showcases native species alongside plants introduced from other parts of the world.
It is home to diverse fauna such as colorful birds, iguanas, lizards, snakes, opossums, and raccoons. Established in 2002 by a group of women dedicated to conserving Acapulco's biodiversity, the garden serves as a peaceful space for education, relaxation, and environmental appreciation. It is open daily with a small admission fee and offers guided tours, workshops, and family activities, making it a notable natural attraction near Acapulco's vibrant beaches.
