Al-Sahla Great Mosque

Najaf, Iraq

---

The Al-Sahla Great Mosque, also known as Al-Sahlah Mosque, is a revered Shia Islamic shrine located in Kufa, near Najaf, Iraq.

Dating back to the 7th century, it is considered one of the oldest and most important religious sites in the region and holds a special place in Twelver Shia tradition. The mosque is closely associated with several prophets, including Ibrahim (Abraham), Idris (Enoch), and Khidr, and is believed by Shia Muslims to be the future residence of the Twelfth Imam, Muhammad al-Mahdi, after his return.

Because of these beliefs, it attracts large numbers of pilgrims seeking spiritual blessings and prayer. With its spacious courtyards, domes, minarets, and shrines dedicated to prophets and imams, Al-Sahla Great Mosque is both a significant religious center and an important historical landmark. Its deep spiritual importance, rich history, and distinctive Islamic architecture make it one of the most respected sacred sites in Iraq.
