Ambil Island is a small island in the Philippines located in the Luzon Sea under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Looc in Occidental Mindoro province.
It is the 93rd largest island in the Philippines, covering approximately 30.15 square kilometers with a coastline of about 31.88 kilometers. The island is dominated by Mount Benagongon, a conical mountain rising around 750 meters (2,461 feet) high that formed the island. Ambil is actually an island barangay that includes the main island plus two smaller outlying islands called Mandaui and Malavatuan to the northeast.
The area has a tropical oceanic climate with average temperatures around 24°C, hottest in May at 26°C and coolest in January at 23°C, receiving about 3,146 millimeters of rain annually with July being the wettest month. The barangay had a population of 1,725 people according to the 2020 census, representing about 22% of Looc's total population.
The first settlers came from nearby Lubang Island and established settlements named Sitio Tambo and Sitio Tabaw, with the initial settlement named after abundant bamboo called "tambo" in Tagalog.
