Amouda
Turkey, Turkey
Amouda is a ruined Crusader castle near Gökçedam village in Osmaniye Province, southern Turkey, overlooking the Ceyhan River on a rocky outcrop.
Deeded by Armenian king Levon I to the Teutonic Knights in 1212, it was rebuilt in the 13th century with a rectangular plan, defensive walls, a four-story keep, and cisterns for water during sieges. The fortress sheltered 2,200 people against a Mamluk invasion in 1266 before being captured and plundered.
