Anadoluhisarı
Istanbul, Türkiye, Turkey
Anadoluhisarı is a medieval Ottoman fortress on Istanbul's Asian shore at the Bosphorus' narrowest point, built in 1393-1394 by Sultan Bayezid I to control maritime traffic and support the siege of Constantinople.
Featuring a tall main tower, protective walls, and later reinforcements by Mehmed II including extra watchtowers, it paired with Rumelihisarı across the strait to blockade the city in 1453, aiding the Ottoman conquest.
After falling into disrepair post-conquest, it served as a customs house and prison, now offering scenic views amid a quaint village setting.
