Ballyhack Castle is a well-preserved 15th-century tower house located in the village of Ballyhack in County Wexford, overlooking Waterford Estuary.

Built around the mid to late 1400s, it is traditionally associated with the Knights Hospitaller, a medieval religious and military order, and was strategically positioned to guard an important ferry crossing and monitor movement along the waterway. The five-storey stone castle was designed for both defense and residence, featuring thick walls, a fortified entrance, a murder hole, machicolations, and a small chapel built into the upper floors.

Its elevated location provided excellent views and enhanced its defensive capabilities. Over the centuries, Ballyhack Castle witnessed several historical conflicts, including attacks during the Desmond Rebellions and occupation by Cromwellian forces in the 17th century. Today, it is a protected National Monument that has been restored and is open to visitors seasonally, offering a glimpse into Ireland’s medieval history and architecture.
