Banloc Castle
Banloc, Romania, Romania
Banloc Castle, located in Banloc village, Timiș County, Romania, was constructed in 1793 by Count Lázár Karátsonyi as a massive U-shaped brick residence with thick walls about 1.25 meters wide, featuring a southern Renaissance facade adorned with the family blazon and northern wings forming an honor courtyard.
Its architecture blends neoclassical plans with romantic Gothic elements like crenelated towers, a stepped gable, and massive 19th-century gates inspired by Egyptian antiquity and English neogothic, set amid an English-style park with exotic trees including American locusts planted under Maria Theresa.
Passing to descendants like Jenő Karátsonyi, it became Romanian royal property before 1948 nationalization, suffering damage from the 1991 Banat-Voiteg earthquake and now standing as a historic monument amid preservation efforts.
