Betty’s Hope, located near Pares in Saint Peter Parish, Antigua and Barbuda, is one of the island’s most important historical landmarks and was the first large-scale sugar plantation in Antigua.

Established in the mid-1600s and later owned by the Codrington family, the plantation played a major role in the island’s colonial economy and was worked by enslaved Africans for centuries. Today, the site is preserved as an open-air museum featuring restored windmills, plantation ruins, a boiling house, and other remnants of the former sugar estate.

The iconic stone windmills are among the most recognizable historic structures in Antigua and offer insight into how sugar was produced during the colonial era.
