Bogesunds Castle
Sweden, Sweden
Bogesunds Castle is a striking manor located on Bogesundslandet peninsula in Vaxholm Municipality, about 15 km east of Stockholm, Sweden, overlooking the Stockholm archipelago's main shipping channel.
Built in the 1640s as a four-story cubic structure by Count Per Brahe the Younger, Sweden's largest landowner at the time, it passed through noble families like Hamilton, von Rosen, and von Höpken before gaining its current medieval romantic appearance with towers and Gothic windows during 1860s renovations by architects Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander and Thor Medelplan.
Acquired by the Swedish state in 1946 after falling into disrepair, it now stands as a protected cultural monument managed by the National Property Board, open for summer visits, guided tours, and events within the scenic Bogesundslandet nature reserve.
