Borgeby Castle, located in Bjärred near Lomma Municipality in Sweden's Skåne region along the Kävlingeån River, originated around 980 AD as a Viking Age ringfort possibly commissioned by Danish King Harald Bluetooth, later serving as an archbishop's residence for Lund until the 1536 Reformation.
The site evolved through centuries of conflict including burnings in 1452, 1658, and during peasant revolts featuring a 15th-century Börjes Tower, 16th-century gatehouse, and 1650s main building, with evidence of minting, horse breeding, and trade hub significance.
Today preserved as a cultural venue with Norlindmuseet museum, shops, café, gardens, and events, it showcases over a thousand years of dramatic Danish-Swedish history.
