Börringe Priory
Börringe, Sweden, Sweden
Börringe Priory, located near Börringe village in Svedala Municipality in Sweden's Skåne region, was founded around 1150 as a Benedictine convent for nuns on an island in Börringe Lake, dedicated to the Virgin Mary during Scania's Danish era.
Secularized in 1536 during the Lutheran Reformation, the site transitioned to noble ownership including the Brahe and Tott families, with the church demolished in 1582 by Görvel Fadersdotter Sparre to build a new parish church nearby, while convent buildings were repurposed as a manor.
The current Börringekloster Castle structure dates to 1763 when the Beck-Friis family replaced earlier buildings, later expanded in 1873, now serving as a private estate with only faint priory remnants like church fragments preserved in the local burial ground.
