Brunei Museum
Kota Batu, Brunei-Muara District, Brunei
The Brunei Museum, located in Kota Batu near Bandar Seri Begawan, was established in 1965 and moved to its current building in 1970, officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1972. The museum building is notable for its traditional Malay architectural motifs, inspired by the 15th-century Tomb of Sultan Bolkiah, a historical ruler of the Brunei Sultanate.
It sits on a scenic bluff overlooking the Brunei River within a large parkland of 48 hectares. The museum spans three floors and houses extensive collections covering ethnography, archaeology, natural history, and Brunei’s cultural heritage, including artifacts connected to the region’s history and the country's petroleum industry.
Its galleries include exhibits of Islamic art, local history, traditional crafts, and displays from the Sultan’s personal collections. Although the museum has been closed since 2014 for major renovations, it remains an important cultural landmark reflecting Brunei’s heritage and historical significance.
