Burgruine Münchsberg
Pfeffingen, Switzerland, Switzerland
Burgruine Münchsberg is a 13th-century castle ruin located near Pfeffingen in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland, once the largest fortress along the Burgengratweg trail and seat of the rival Münchsberg noble family.
Built amid feuds with nearby Schaler knights at Schalberg Castle just 390 meters away, it dominated the Laufental valley until likely damaged by the 1356 Basel earthquake and subsequent abandonments during regional wars.
The overgrown site features scattered wall remnants integrated into forested hiking paths, highlighting medieval power struggles in the Jura foothills.
