Cabra Island
Philippines, Philippines
Cabra Island is a small, flat volcanic island covering 10.13 square kilometers off the northwest coast of Mindoro in the Philippines, administered as a barangay of Lubang municipality in Occidental Mindoro province.
Named by Spaniards in 1885 for abundant wild goats (cabra) spotted upon landing, it rises to just 61 meters with a distinctive goat-shaped rock islet and hosts the historic Cabra Island Lighthouse, guiding ships through the Verde Island Passage since 1889.
Home to around 1,231 residents who fish and farm amid tropical rainforest, it gained fame from 1966-1972 Marian apparitions inspiring the film Himala, offering serene beaches and hiking in a remote South China Sea setting.
