Calayan Island, the largest in the Babuyan Islands group off northern Luzon in the Philippines' Cagayan province, spans about 196 square kilometers of volcanic terrain with rolling hills, a central forested ridge peaking at Mount Calayan, and white sand beaches flanked by rocky shores and basaltic columns. 

Home to around 20,000 residents mainly in the coastal town of Calayan, it features rice floodplains, coral limestone formations, and rich deposits of perlite, while supporting fishing, livestock, and small-scale farming of corn, tobacco, and cotton amid thick forests and wild guavas.

This remote paradise draws adventure seekers for its unspoiled countryside charm, tide-dependent boat access via lampitaw from Aparri, and tropical climate marked by heavy rains from November to December, though frequent typhoons and wet weather add to its wild, off-grid allure.
