Cascade of Time Garden
Banff, Canada, Canada
The Cascade of Time Garden (also called Cascades of Time Gardens) is a beautiful, terraced 4-acre alpine garden located in downtown Banff, Alberta, Canada, tucked behind the historic Parks Canada Administration Building at the south end of Banff Avenue near the Bow River.
Built from 1932 to 1935 and designed by landscape architect William Harder, the garden was created to showcase the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains and features stone pathways, terraced flower beds, cascading ponds, waterfall pools, gazebos, pavilions, benches, and over 50,000 flowers that bloom from late May through early September.
The garden is divided into sections representing different geological eras of the Rocky Mountains' formation, with pools symbolizing primordial eras, and it includes the Cambrian Pavilion—a Recognized Federal Heritage Building built of rock in the Rustic style that serves as an observation platform for viewing Cascade Mountain at the opposite end of town.
Known as Banff's "secret garden" or "little oasis," it sits just 1 km from downtown Banff, offers free admission year-round, is well-maintained with clean public bathrooms and ample parking, and provides a peaceful retreat where visitors can escape Banff Avenue crowds, enjoy picnics, reflect on nature's cycles, and take in stunning views of Banff village, the Bow River, and mountain backdrops.
