Castelo de Belmonte is a medieval fortress dominating the hilltop village of Belmonte in Castelo Branco district, eastern-central Portugal, likely initiated in the late 12th century under King Sancho I for border defense during the Reconquista, with archaeological evidence confirming structures from that era.

Expanded in 1258 by Bishop Egas Fafes of Coimbra under Afonso III, featuring a Gothic keep tower and granite walls in Romanesque style, it transitioned in 1446 into a residence for Fernão Cabral I when King Afonso V granted it to him, incorporating Manueline elements like panoramic windows and the Paço dos Cabrais manor.

Revived militarily in the 17th century with bastions during the Restoration Wars, damaged by fire, and later adapted with 18th-century buildings, it now stands as a national monument and museum within Portugal's Historic Villages, blending Roman, Gothic, Manueline, and Baroque architecture amid panoramic views.
