The Castelo de Lamego crowns a granite-schist hilltop at 543 meters above sea level in Lamego, Portugal, with roots in Roman times and documented Muslim presence from the 10th century until its definitive reconquest in 1057 by Fernando Magno of León.

Integrated into the County of Portugal via Henry of Burgundy and Teresa of León's marriage dowry, it saw 12th-century tower keep and dungeon construction by the Masters of Bragança, followed by 13th-century fortification walls, cistern, and urban gates amid ongoing Christian-Muslim disputes.

Its irregular polygonal Romanesque-Gothic layout features a rectangular off-center keep with raised entry, wooden floors, slits-turned-windows, battlements, and an adjacent 13th-14th century vaulted cistern—one of Portugal's largest—expanded in later centuries before classification as a National Monument in 1910.
