Castelo de Vila Verde dos Francos ruins, located in the parish of Alenquer, Portugal, trace their origins to around 1160 when King Afonso Henriques donated the lands to D. Alardo, a French Crusader captain who aided in conquering Lisbon, Sintra, Almada, Palmela, and Alenquer during the Reconquista, granting the first charter and naming it for the "Franks."

Tradition attributes the castle's construction to D. Alardo himself as a modest defensive tower or atalaia, though lacking firm documentation or full archaeological confirmation, it protected the early settlement amid prehistoric and medieval occupation layers.

By the mid-18th century, the structure was already reported in ruins, with only scant wall remnants surviving today as a Public Interest Building, evoking the frontier role of foreign knights in Portugal's nation-building era.
