Castelo Rodrigo's Castle is a medieval fortress overlooking the historic village of Castelo Rodrigo in Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo municipality, Guarda district, northeastern Portugal, near the Spanish border.

Founded around 1209 by King Afonso IX of León after conquering the Riba-Côa region from the Moors, it formed part of a defensive line along the Côa River and was named for Count Rodrigo Gonzalez de Girón who repopulated it.

Conquered by King Dinis in 1296 and secured for Portugal via the 1297 Treaty of Alcanices, Dinis rebuilt it with a tall keep tower, walls enclosing 13 turrets, a barbican, moats, and cistern, later adapted in the 15th-16th centuries under João II and Manuel I for artillery.

Siding against João I in the 1385 crisis led to punitive measures like an inverted coat of arms, and it declined after the 1640 Restoration, surviving as impressive ruins classified as a national monument amid panoramic views.
