Castelul Béldi-Mikes
Uzon, Romania, Romania
Castelul Béldi-Mikes in Uzon (Ozun), Covasna County, Romania, originated as a 15th-century Béldi family manor house that was severely damaged during invasions, passing in 1679 to Kelemen Mikes I after Pál Béldi III's disgrace. Rebuilt in 1755 by Antal Mikes I with a brick porch, stucco-vaulted rooms featuring floral and tulip motifs, and an eastern chapel marked "IN NOMINE DNI AEDIFICATA AD 1755," it features projecting wings with buttresses post-1802 earthquake, rectangular windows, and Renaissance crenellations later simplified. Nationalized in 1949 from Count Kelemen Mikes's widow Emma Béldi, it served various uses before restitution in 2004 to heirs like Borbála and Zsigmond Mikes, who now maintain this Székely noble heritage site with ongoing preservation amid its historic park.
