Castelul de la Mintia
Romania, Romania
Castelul de la Mintia din Hunedoara County, Romania, is a historic noble residence originally built around 1640-1641 in Renaissance style by Ferenc Gyulay, a prominent Hungarian general, on lands donated to his family near the Mureș River. Transformed into its current neoclassical form between 1831-1834 by Count Lajos Gyulay with Viennese architect Friedrich Wilhelm Stetter, it features a U-shaped two-story layout with a prominent central risalit, Ionic pilasters, semicircular arches, corner risalites with triangular pediments, barrel-vaulted interiors, and an English garden once adorned with Roman sculptures. Serving as a cultural and model farm center with modern agricultural buildings, it was nationalized post-WWII and now functions partly for visitor accommodation while preserving its role as a national monument amid ongoing conservation efforts.
