Kálnoky Castle in Miklósvár (Micloșoara), Covasna County, Romania, began as a 17th-century Late Renaissance rectangular two-story fortress built around 1648 by István Kálnoky III, a royal judge, with bastions for defense, later expanded by his son Sámuel I with ornate stucco in the Great Hall. Transformed into Classicist style at the 18th-19th century turn and finalized in the early 1900s with arcaded loggias, columned porticos, staircases, and a symmetrical layout per engineer Győző Gyárfás's plans, it was surrounded by a vast 19th-century English garden now reduced to rare trees. Owned by the Kálnoky family until nationalization post-WWII, it passed through hands like Eugen Savu before partial restoration; today it serves as a guesthouse exemplifying Transylvania's noble evolution from fortress to elegant manor.
