Castle Saunderson is a historic castle estate near Belturbet in County Cavan, Ireland.
Originally associated with the O’Reilly family of Breffni, it later became the seat of the Saunderson family during the Plantation of Ulster and played a role in several significant events in Irish history. The castle was damaged and rebuilt multiple times over the centuries. The present Gothic Revival structure largely dates from the 19th century, but it was severely damaged by fire in 1990 and now survives as an impressive ruin.
Today, Castle Saunderson is a notable heritage site known for its striking architecture, historic grounds, and scenic setting near the Cavan-Fermanagh border. The surrounding demesne is home to the Castle Saunderson International Scouting Centre and offers walking trails that allow visitors to explore the estate’s rich history and natural beauty.
