Castlehyde
Ireland, Ireland
Castlehyde is a historic estate near Fermoy in County Cork, Ireland, situated on the banks of the River Blackwater.
The site includes the ruins of a medieval tower house, originally built by the Condon family, and a grand country mansion that was later constructed by the Hyde family, from whom the estate takes its name. The original castle was a fortified tower house with strong defensive features and a prominent cliffside location overlooking the river.
In the late 16th century, the property came into the possession of Arthur Hyde, and the Hyde family later developed the estate into an impressive country residence. The estate is also associated with Douglas Hyde, the first President of Ireland and founder of the Gaelic League.
Today, Castlehyde is renowned for its rich history, elegant architecture, and scenic riverside setting. The estate remains one of the most famous historic properties in County Cork and is widely admired for its restoration and heritage significance.
