Castletown House in Celbridge, County Kildare, is one of Ireland’s most important historic buildings and is widely regarded as the country’s first and finest Palladian mansion. Built around 1722 for William Conolly, Speaker of the Irish House of Commons, the grand estate was designed to showcase wealth, influence, and architectural elegance. The house is renowned for its impressive classical design, magnificent interiors, and richly decorated rooms, including the Long Gallery, grand staircase, and an exceptional eighteenth-century print room. It played a significant role in Ireland’s cultural and social history and was further enhanced by Lady Louisa Conolly in the late eighteenth century. Today, Castletown House is managed by Ireland’s Office of Public Works and is open to visitors.
