Cazacilor Fortress
Romania, Romania
Cazacilor Fortress, located near Oradea in Bihor County, Romania, refers to the Crăișor Bastion (also known as Bastionul Cazacilor or Crăișorul Bastion), a key component of the larger Oradea Fortress built in the 16th century by Italian architect Giulio Cesare Baldigara between 1569 and 1570.
Named after Prince John Sigismund (John Crăișor), it protected the southern gate leading to the episcopal palace as part of the pentagonal bastion system with wedge-shaped corner bastions, surrounded by a thermal-water moat that never froze, making Oradea one of Romania's few Italian-style bastion fortresses.
Today, this well-preserved section offers visitors a glimpse into Renaissance military architecture within the restored Oradea Citadel complex.
