Cetatea Tabla Buții
Romania, Romania
Cetatea Tabla Buții, located near Cerașu in Prahova County, Romania, at 1360 meters elevation in the Buzău Mountains pass between Ciucaș and Buzăului ranges, is a medieval stone fortress first mentioned in 13th-century Hungarian documents as Cruceburg or Kiralyko, predating Teutonic Knights who repaired it around 1211-1225 against Cuman invasions.
Positioned to guard the Buzău Pass trade route from Wallachia to Transylvania's Bârsa Land, it endured Tatar raids (1241, 1285, 1343), Ottoman armies (1421-1828), and Transylvanian-Wallachian conflicts, with Austrian general Heissler ordering reconstruction in 1689 after Emeric Tokoly's damage, serving as a Habsburg frontier bastion until World War I battles in 1916.
Today, its ruined walls, towers, defensive ditch, and medieval ceramics stand as an overgrown archaeological site (LMI cod: 123847.001), accessible via hiking trails amid the Carpathian scenery.
