Chatuchak Weekend Market
Bangkok, Thailand
Chatuchak Weekend Market, also called JJ Market, is the world's largest weekend market in Bangkok, Thailand, sprawling over 35 acres with more than 15,000 stalls across 27 sections in the Chatuchak district near Chatuchak Park.
Originating in 1942 under Prime Minister Plaek Phibunsongkhram's policy to boost local trade, it started at Sanam Luang, shifted locations several times, and settled permanently in its current spot in 1982, growing into a vibrant hub that draws around 200,000 visitors every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Shoppers find everything from clothing, antiques, and handicrafts to street food, plants, pets, and art in a maze of narrow alleys, with an iconic clock tower built in 1987 as a landmark and meeting point amid the bustling atmosphere.
