The Chhoto Shahi Mosque, more commonly known as the Choto Sona Mosque or “Small Golden Mosque,” is one of the finest surviving examples of Bengal Sultanate architecture in the Rajshahi Division of Bangladesh.

Built between 1493 and 1519 during the reign of Sultan Alauddin Husain Shah by Wali Muhammad, the mosque is celebrated for its elegant design, intricate stone carvings, and historical importance. The mosque earned its name because its fifteen domes were once covered with gilded decorations that gave them a golden appearance.

Constructed with brick and stone, it features beautifully carved arches, mihrabs, and ornamental details that reflect the artistic achievements of medieval Bengal. Today, the Choto Sona Mosque is a protected archaeological monument and one of Bangladesh’s most treasured historical landmarks. Its remarkable preservation, architectural beauty, and connection to the region’s Islamic heritage make it a popular destination for visitors, historians, and architecture enthusiasts.
