Clonmacnoise Monastic Site is one of Ireland’s most important early Christian heritage sites, located on the banks of the River Shannon in County Offaly.

It was founded in 544 AD by Saint Ciarán and grew into a major center of religion, learning, craftsmanship, and trade, attracting scholars and pilgrims from across Ireland and Europe. The site contains the ruins of a cathedral, several ancient churches, two round towers, impressive high crosses, and hundreds of early Christian grave slabs.
