Conacul Bohus din Șiria
Șiria, Romania, Romania
Conacul Bohus din Șiria, Arad County, Romania, is a neoclassical mansion built starting in 1824 by baron János Bohus on family lands acquired in 1755 under Habsburg rule.
Featuring 30 rooms and elegant Transylvanian Plain architecture, it hosted key events like the 1849 signing of the Hungarian revolutionary army's surrender to Russian forces in its library, amid support from Antónia Szögény Bohus for women's emancipation and imprisoned revolutionaries.
Stones from the nearby medieval Cetatea Șiriei, destroyed in 1784 to prevent peasant rebel shelter, were repurposed for its construction. After the Bohus line faded early 20th century, it became a community asset in 1960, now serving as the Memorial Museum of writer Ioan Slavici (born in Șiria) and composer Emil Monția, displaying their belongings and legacies.
