Crossmolina Castle was a medieval stronghold in Crossmolina, County Mayo, associated with the Burke family, who controlled the area during the late Middle Ages.
The castle played an important role in the local power structure of the historic Tirawley region and stood near the River Deel. In 1526, the castle was destroyed during an invasion led by O'Donnell of Tirconnell. Following its destruction, the Burkes built a replacement fortress known as Deel Castle, which became the area's principal stronghold.
Although little remains of Crossmolina Castle today, it forms an important part of the town’s history and reflects the turbulent conflicts between powerful Gaelic and Norman-Irish families in medieval Mayo.
