Csernovics-Károlyi Castle in Macea, Arad County, Romania, began as a mansion constructed around 1724-1745 by the noble Csernovics family of Serbian origin after they received the domain from the Habsburg Empire, starting with Mihai Csernovics building the eastern wing in late Baroque style with Byzantine-inspired elements like small turrets.

His wife Ana expanded the estate, and later owners including nephew Lazar, elevated to count in 1793, refined it until Pavel's son Peter lost it in a card game around 1845-1866 to the Károlyi family, who added a modern secession-style wing, 30-meter tower, and gardens with exotic plants from his Near East travels.

Blending Baroque, Gothic, and Byzantine features with a prominent Karolyi coat-of-arms entrance flanked by lion statues, the castle passed through turbulent ownership via wars and communism before becoming part of Macea's Botanical Garden complex, showcasing its architectural fusion today.
