Daniel Castle
Tălișoara, Romania, Romania
Daniel Castle in Tălișoara, Covasna County, Romania, is a historic noble residence from one of Transylvania's oldest Székely families, acquired in 1609 through a donation from Prince Gábor Báthory and confirmed by Gábor Bethlen in 1621 to Mihály Daniel I, vice-captain of the Trei Scaune region. Originally built mid-17th century on the site of a 16th-century manor, it was expanded in stages: a two-story east wing added in 1669 by Mihály Daniel II, an upper floor in the 1680s marked by decorative murals, and a Classicist north wing in the 1880s, featuring Renaissance elements like thick walls, stone crests, and heraldic motifs. Nationalized in 1949 and used for storage, it returned to heirs and now operates as a luxury boutique hotel preserving its 350-year legacy amid southern Transylvania's landscapes.
