Degendfeld Castle
Kutyfalva, Romania, Romania
Degendfeld Castle in Kutyfalva (Cuci), near Târgu Mureș in Mureș County, Romania, began as a 17th-century manor built by Count Pekry Lőrinc and his poet wife, later rebuilt in neoclassical style in the early 19th century by Count Maximilian von Degenfeld-Schonburg after marrying Countess Teleki Anna. Expanded around 1900 with two wings by Degenfeld Lajos, it featured a symmetrical single-story layout with a central columned portico leading to grand salons, a library, and model farm outbuildings for agriculture and viticulture. Looted post-World War II, nationalized in 1949 for use as a grain depot, mayor's office, library, and police station, it was returned to heirs in 2010 and now operates as a cultural center hosting events after partial restoration.
