Diwaran Island
Philippines , Philippines
Diwaran Island is a 55-hectare (140-acre) uninhabited island located in Coron municipality, Palawan, Philippines, known for its fine white sand beaches, turquoise waters, coral reefs, and prime dive sites.
Also known as Dinaran, the island is situated about 20 minutes by speedboat from Coron town and features a serene, natural setting that attracts visitors seeking an untouched tropical paradise. In 2009, Singapore-based Banyan Tree Resort Holdings announced plans to develop Asia's first single-largest integrated island resort on the island, a $240 million project that would include 600 hotel keys, three award-winning spas and hotels, a marina, and a town center with full facilities, positioning Diwaran as the "next Phuket".
However, the massive resort project did not push through as originally planned, with the first phase never completed by the anticipated 2012 target date, leaving the island largely undeveloped and pristine. Diwaran remains an uninhabited island with natural tropical beauty, making it a potential destination for beach relaxation, snorkeling, diving, and island-hopping tours in the Coron area.
