Donamon Castle

Donamon Castle, more properly known as Dunamon Castle, is a historic castle in County Roscommon overlooking the River Suck.

The site has been occupied since at least the 12th century and is considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited buildings in Ireland. Throughout its long history, the castle was held by several important families, including the O'Finaghty clan, the O'Connors, the Burkes, and later the Caulfeild family.

It was repeatedly attacked, destroyed, and rebuilt during the medieval struggles between Gaelic Irish rulers and Anglo-Norman forces. The castle was extensively modified in the 18th and 19th centuries, giving it much of its present appearance. Since 1939 it has been associated with the Divine Word Missionaries and has served religious and community purposes. Today, Donamon Castle remains an important historic landmark, reflecting more than 800 years of Irish history.
