Dudipatsar
Lulusar-Dudipatsar NP, KPK, Pakistan
Dudipatsar Lake often called the Queen of Lakes is a hidden alpine gem tucked deep within the Lulusar-Dudipatsar National Park in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Sitting at an elevation of about 3,800 meters (12,500 feet), this glacial lake is surrounded by snow-draped peaks and lush summer meadows, making it one of the most breathtaking destinations in the Kaghan Valley.
The name “Dudipatsar” comes from the local words dudi (white), pat (mountains), and sar (lake)—a poetic nod to the snow-covered mountains that cradle its turquoise waters.
The journey begins from Besal, a small village near Lulusar Lake. From there, it’s a 7–9 hour trek (one way) through alpine meadows, glacial streams, and rugged terrain to reach the lake. Most trekkers camp overnight at Mulla ki Basti, a seasonal settlement about 2 hours from the lake.
The lake is accessible only during the summer months (June to September), when the snow melts and the trail becomes passable. Earlier in the season, you’ll find more snow and dramatic contrasts between the white peaks and green valleys.
Dudipatsar and its surrounding wetlands are ecologically significant, home to species like the snow leopard, Himalayan marmot, black bear, and a variety of migratory waterfowl. The lake lies within the Western Himalayan alpine shrub and meadows ecoregion, making it a haven for biodiversity.
