Embūtes Pilsdrupas, or Embūte Castle Ruins, are the remains of a medieval castle in the Courland region of Latvia.

Originally built in 1265 as a border fortress near an ancient Curonian settlement, the castle played an important role in defending the area and was associated with both the Livonian Order and the Bishops of Courland. The site has a long and turbulent history. Over the centuries, the castle was converted into a manor residence, damaged during wars, and eventually destroyed during the Great Northern War.

Later manor buildings were constructed using parts of the original castle, but these too disappeared over time. Today, only fragments of the castle’s walls and towers remain, surrounded by trees on a scenic hillside. Despite its ruined condition, Embūte Castle remains an important historical landmark, reflecting the medieval history of Latvia and the region’s resistance, conflicts, and cultural heritage.
