Farney Castle is a historic castle near Holycross in County Tipperary, Ireland.

The site began as an early Norman stronghold, while the surviving stone tower house dates largely from the late 15th century. It was closely associated with the powerful Butler family of Ormond, who controlled much of the surrounding region. The castle is notable for its distinctive round medieval tower, thick defensive walls, spiral stairways, and later Gothic Revival additions.

Over the centuries, the building was expanded and remodeled, blending medieval military architecture with elegant 18th and 19th century country-house features. Unlike many Irish castles, Farney Castle remains occupied and carefully preserved. Today it is celebrated as one of County Tipperary’s most distinctive historic homes, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience a castle that has evolved continuously for more than 500 years.
