The building began as a country house known as Mount Mapas, built around 1740, and was later expanded and remodeled into the castle-style residence known as Killiney Castle. Over the centuries, the property passed through several owners and played various roles, including military use during periods of conflict in the 20th century.

In the 1970s, Paddy and Eithne Fitzpatrick transformed the historic building into a hotel, giving it the name Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel. Today, the hotel combines historic character with modern amenities and is known for its elegant accommodations, sea views, and warm family-run hospitality. Its location beside Killiney Hill and near the coast makes it a popular base for visitors exploring Dublin’s scenic southern suburbs.
