Fukushima Castle Ruins mark the former site of Fukushima Castle, a historic stronghold that served as the administrative center of Fukushima Domain in present-day Fukushima City.

The castle originated in the early 15th century and was controlled by several powerful clans over the centuries, including the Date and Itakura families. The castle played an important role in regional politics during the feudal era and was renamed Fukushima Castle in 1592. After the Meiji Restoration, it was surrendered peacefully, and the castle structures were demolished in 1871 as Japan moved away from its feudal system.

Today, little of the original castle remains, and the site is occupied mainly by the Fukushima Prefectural Office and other public buildings. Despite the loss of most structures, the location remains historically significant as the former seat of local government and a reminder of Fukushima’s samurai-era past.
