Gelli Aur Country Park
Golden Grove, Wales, United Kingdom
Gelli Aur Country Park (Welsh for "Golden Grove") is a serene 60–100 acre wooded parkland country park in Carmarthenshire, Wales, located near Llandeilo about 4 miles southwest of the town and 20 minutes from Carmarthen, surrounding the magnificent Golden Grove mansion house with breathtaking views across the beautiful Towy Valley.
Once the home of the influential Vaughan and Cawdor families over the past 500 years, the park is registered at Grade II* on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales, reflecting over half a millennium of careful estate management.
The park's most remarkable feature is the Golden Grove Arboretum, one of Wales's most historic tree collections, created in the 1860s by Head Gardener John Hill for the Earls of Cawdor during the Victorian era of plant exploration when rare and exotic trees were brought from across the world.
Visitors can enjoy 30 acres of beautiful woodland walks, explore nature trails through woodland, parkland, and meadows to spot birds, plants, and butterflies, visit the deer park with a herd of fallow deer, and see formal terraces, ancient trees, a lake and canal dating from the mid-17th century, and a walled garden of great historical interest.
