Golden Strand
Dugort East, Ireland, Ireland
Golden Strand, also known as Barnyagappul Strand or the “gap of the horses,” is a Blue Flag beach on Achill Island in County Mayo, Ireland, located about 3 km east of the village of Dugort along the Wild Atlantic Way.
The beach is an exposed, sandy shoreline with a softly sloping entrance, flanked by large pebbles and dune‑like headlands that support native plants and coastal wildlife, creating a wide, unspoiled setting. It is popular for swimming, walking, surfing, and a range of water sports such as sailing, canoeing, water skiing, jet skiing, snorkelling, and scuba diving, while also serving as a quieter, scenic contrast to the nearby Dugort / Silver Strand beaches on the island’s northern coast.
