Grobiņa Castle is a medieval castle ruin in the town of Grobiņa in western Latvia.

Built by the Livonian Order in 1253, it served as an important fortress guarding trade and military routes between Livonia and Prussia and later became the residence of local Livonian Order officials. The castle was repeatedly expanded, fortified, and rebuilt over the centuries, including the addition of bastions and defensive earthworks during the 16th and 17th centuries.

After periods under Livonian, Prussian, and Courland rule, the castle gradually declined and was largely destroyed in the 18th century. Today, the ruins remain one of Grobiņa’s most important historical landmarks. The site is closely linked to the area’s earlier Viking Age and Curonian heritage, making it a fascinating place that reflects both Latvia’s medieval history and its role as an early Baltic cultural center.
