The Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands, located in the highlands of Fuji Hakone Izu National Park at Sengokuhara, Hakone, Japan, was founded in 1976 to preserve and showcase over 1,700 species of marsh and alpine plants native to Japan.
It features about 200 types of wetland plants from various regions, alongside 1,100 species of grassland, forest, alpine, and rare foreign plants. Visitors can explore a network of boardwalk trails through different types of marshlands and wetlands, with signs in both English and Japanese to educate on plant species and ecosystems.
The garden is famous for seasonal blooms such as the Nikko Kisuge daylily in June and Japanese irises in spring. It highlights diverse habitats from lowland marshes to highland alpine zones, providing a rich botanical experience that changes with the seasons. The garden closes during the winter months and is accessible by bus from nearby Hakone stations.
