Hanwella Fort

Hanwella, Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka

Hanwella Fort was a river-crossing stronghold on the Kelani River in Sri Lanka, originally tied to the kingdom of Sitawaka and later rebuilt by the Portuguese, Dutch, and British. It helped control an important ferry route and served as a defensive point during centuries of conflict. Today, only traces of the fort remain, but the site is still remembered for its strategic role in Sri Lankan history.
