Ineu Fortress, located in Ineu, Arad County, Romania, originated as a fortified keep in the 13th century, first documented in 1295 amid Transylvania's strategic defenses against invasions.

Controlled by figures like John Hunyadi and the Losonczy family from 1387, it evolved into a Renaissance stronghold with four corner bastions and symmetrical layout by the late 16th century, enduring Ottoman sieges in 1566 and occupations until Habsburg recapture in 1595.

Rebuilt per Gabriel Haller's designs with documented armaments in 1605, it shifted roles post-1658 Ottoman loss—from military garrison to administrative, educational, and medical site—before 1870 neoclassical reconstruction blending Renaissance and Baroque elements.

Today, its preserved structure anchors the historic center, revealing Romanesque carvings and archaeological layers from ongoing excavations.
